Due to open in the beginning of 2009, Palheiro Spa is located in a purpose-built building next to Hotel Casa Velha do Palheiro; a small boutique property steeped in 200 years of history set in a world famous botanical garden.  Madeira born and bred Architect Bruno Martins, integrated rustic elements with the use of natural stone to combine with the classic style of the 200 year old Casa Velha hotel.  The treatment rooms will have their own private gardens which will draw upon elements from the Palheiro Gardens which form part of the surroundings.

The spa will comprise of; a hydro pool, treatment rooms, gym, sauna and steam-room as well as a juice bar and relaxation area.  Offering results-driven skincare in a luxury spa package, with a range of therapeutic professional massage, Palheiro Spa aims to set a new standard.  It will be the perfect complement to the luxury Palheiro lifestyle for hotel guests and Village residents.  In keeping with this lifestyle and ethos, Palheiro Spa has chosen the world-renowned Pevonia Botanica as its exclusive product and treatment line.

It was important to Palheiro Estate that the spa brand they were searching for had exactly the right qualities to complement the philosophy of the estate:

  • Synergise with ‘garden’ – ‘botanical’
  • Natural elements – organic, naturally-sourced ingredients, chemical free, not tested on animals, eco-friendly
  • Unique and exclusive on the island of Madeira
  • Partnership brand – to ensure optimum service and success
  • Quality – elite, fresh, unique, modern, professional, progressive
  • Corresponding homecare with professional treatments – offering results rather than just luxury alone
  • Inspiring yet skilled training – to ensure the spa’s therapists will deliver the highest level of service
  • Marketing support – to ensure maximum exposure thus strengthening ongoing growth and results

Jonathan Fletcher, Director of Palheiro Estate quotes: “by working closely with Pevonia UK, the Palheiro Group aspires to become the leading quality spa in Madeira.  We want to be a one stop shop where the combination of hotel guests and residents who each have different needs can be tailored for.  We chose Pevonia because the brand had to understand and reflect this.”

Madeira Island Golf – Holes in One

On their recent visit to Madeira island Mrs. Graham achieved what every golfer dreams of – a hole in one on Palheiro’s beautiful  3rd hole (and that just one day before her wedding anniversary). Having only started to play golf six years ago this was certainly quite an achievement, considering that most golfers wait a lifetime for this sort of shot to happen. To celebrate this Mrs. Graham was treated to a glass of Madeira wine (Boal 1949!!), offered by Palheiro’s Sales Manager, Michael Otto.

Just a few weeks later the same happened to Michael Rae, also on hole 3, also the first hole in one. Well, out came the old bottle and cheers again! There is probably enough left for another 2 or 3 lucky players, so hurry up!!

Palheiro Village Opened to much Acclaim

25 September 2008 – Madeira Island – Portugal

On Thursday 25 September 2008, the Palheiro Village development was officially inaugurated by His Excellency President Alberto João Jardim of Madeira Island in a ceremony attended by 180 guests including purchasers, clients, key members of the regional government and Funchal town hall, local opinion makers and business people.

Dr Jardim praised Palheiro Village as a “magnificent development” in his opening speech, one of the best projects he has had the pleasure to inaugurate during his long term in office.  Mr Adam Blandy, on behalf of the developer Sociedade Imobiliária Balancal, S.A. talked about the history of the Village from conception in the late 1990’s through to near completion today.

History, tradition and lifestyle are inextricably woven into the whole raison d’être of the development, which is a recent addition to the two centuries old Palheiro Estate which has been in the hands of the Blandy family since 1885. The development has been carried out in a careful and sensitive manner, preserving its historic heart and natural beauty and within parameters of quality and synergy that link all of the estate’s activities. These include the top-class 18-hole Palheiro golf course, the 5-star country house hotel Casa Velha do Palheiro, the new Palheiro Spa and a plant nursery that supplies national and international markets.

Palheiro Village offers the purchaser a superb location within a private condominium, with central facilities including large pool and pool deck, a full range of property management services and access to the golf course and spa.     Algarve-based architect Michael Brown integrated his hallmark classic style and typical Portuguese features with traditional Madeiran elements to create a beautiful blend of colour and “feel” that gives Palheiro Village a distinctive look in complete harmony with its surroundings.

Palheiro Village is the first of its kind on Madeira Island, a small luxury residential development offering full and fractional freehold properties and leisure facilities to a discerning international market.  Located just 15 minutes from Funchal and 20 minutes from the International Airport, it

comprises just 79 properties:  35 nº.  1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and 44 nº. 3 and 4 bedroom villas, all designed and built to high quality standards.

Following the complimentary speeches, an enjoyable evening was had by all concerned on the magnificent pool deck overlooking Funchal harbour and bay.
